Lebak Bulus Prone to Traffic Jams, DKI Provincial Government Reviews Proposal for Road Design Changes
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is considering a proposal for road design changes to smooth traffic flow in the Lebak Bulus area, South Jakarta. The proposal was submitted by the Instagram account @itx_ through a video it uploaded. Deputy Coordinator of the Governor of Jakarta’s Special Staff, Yustinus Prastowo, stated that the provincial government immediately coordinated after the upload gained public attention. He assessed that the input provided serves as material for consideration by the government in seeking solutions to congestion at that point. “In principle, it is good input and the Dishub team is conducting studies and field deepening,” he said. Currently, the Transportation Department is still deepening on the ground various proposals that have emerged, including the possibility of changing traffic engineering. “Currently, the Dishub friends are focusing on regulating the Eid homecoming flow. After Eid, a meeting will be held and we will involve stakeholders to discuss it,” he said. Yustinus emphasised that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government continues to pay attention to congestion points and strives to provide appropriate solutions for the community. Meanwhile, the Head of the South Jakarta Transportation Sub-Department, Bernard Octavianus Pasaribu, said that officers have conducted field surveys to follow up on the proposal. “On Tuesday, 15 March 2026, a survey was conducted by the DKI Jakarta Transportation Department’s Traffic Division, and it is currently in the stage of in-depth study,” said Bernard. Preliminary discussion results indicate that the concept of a roundabout with a circular pattern like in the HI area has the potential to be implemented, but it carries risks if vehicle volume is too high. “If vehicle circulation is very high, it can cause stagnation or lock-up, so careful calculations are needed in its application,” he said. Previously, the upload from the Instagram account @itx_ drew attention after showing traffic conditions in the Lebak Bulus area filled with closely spaced intersections with traffic lights over short distances.
