Learning Clean Energy Stocks: Students Encouraged to Become Investment-Literate
Jakarta — Financial literacy is considered an important foundation for young people before beginning to invest in the capital market. This emerged during an investment literacy seminar held by PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk together with the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) at Parahyangan Catholic University (Unpar) in Bandung.
The event, titled “Earning Returns from Clean Energy Stocks,” introduced investment opportunities in the energy sector, particularly clean energy, to students who are considered potential future investors.
Herlina Hayati, Head of the Financial Services Institution Supervision Division 5 of the OJK West Java, stated that understanding financial conditions and investment risks must be possessed before a person decides to invest in the capital market.
“Before investing, it is important to understand financial conditions, risks, and investment objectives,” said Herlina, through a press statement on Friday, 13 March 2026. “Investment decisions must be made wisely and planned so as not to cause problems later.”
According to Verdi, investment is important because inflation occurs every year, so the value of money can be eroded if not managed properly.
“Investment is important because inflation continues to occur every year,” said Verdi. “By investing, the value of money can grow and not be eroded by price increases. If done with discipline, stock investment can provide optimal results in the long term through the effect of compounding,” he explained.
“Geothermal energy is one of the new renewable energy sources that has very great potential in Indonesia, approximately 24 GW,” said Lufan.
“Indonesia’s geological location, which is on the active volcanic belt, makes geothermal resources extremely abundant and promising to be developed as clean energy and at the same time as a long-term investment opportunity,” he continued.
He explained that global commitment to energy transition and carbon emission reduction drives increasing demand for reliable, stable, and sustainable energy sources. In this context, geothermal energy is considered to have advantages because it can generate electricity consistently with high capacity utilisation rates.
Additionally, academics at the seminar also emphasised the importance of understanding business fundamentals before buying shares, including assessing the prospects of the industrial sector that forms the basis of the company’s activities.
The energy sector is considered one of the strategic sectors because it has a direct role in economic growth whilst supporting the transition towards low-carbon energy.
Through this activity, stakeholders hope that investment literacy amongst young people will increase, whilst introducing the potential of the clean energy sector as a long-term investment option.
Currently, PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk manages 15 geothermal working areas in Indonesia with a total installed capacity of 1,932 MW, both operated independently and through joint operation contracts.
Indonesia itself has the world’s second-largest geothermal potential, opening opportunities for clean energy development as well as long-term investment in the energy sector.
