Learning at MAN 3 Padang Returns to Normal After Bomb Scare, Ministry Ensures Student Support
The West Sumatra Regional Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs has confirmed that conditions at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) 3 in Padang City remain conducive and teaching activities are running as normal following a loud bang at the madrasah.
The assurance was given after the Head of the West Sumatra Ministry of Religious Affairs Regional Office, Mustafa, together with the Head of Madrasah Education, Tangusli, and their team conducted a direct inspection of the madrasah’s condition yesterday.
Mustafa said the inspection was carried out immediately after receiving information about the incident that occurred within the madrasah compound. Based on field observations, the activities of the madrasah community were proceeding well and the situation remained under control.
“We went straight to the location to check on the madrasah’s condition. Thank God, the situation remains conducive and activities at the madrasah are running as they should,” said Mustafa.
He explained that the Mata Muda activities currently taking place at MAN 3 Padang City continued as planned. Based on monitoring at the madrasah, there were no visible signs of panic or disruption affecting the overall learning process.
According to Mustafa, the handling of the incident has now been fully handed over to the West Sumatra Regional Police. The Regional Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs respects the investigation being conducted by the authorities and continues to coordinate with the Padang City Ministry of Religious Affairs Office, the madrasah, and other relevant parties.
“We have entrusted the handling process entirely to the police. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Religious Affairs is focused on ensuring that educational services continue and that the madrasah community receives the necessary support,” he said.
Based on field observations, the Regional Office has not found any indication of students suffering trauma as a result of the incident. Nevertheless, the madrasah continues to prepare support measures should any students require further attention.
Support is being provided in stages through the madrasah principal, teachers, class supervisors, and counselling teachers (BK). Students will also be given reassurance to remain calm, not be easily influenced by unverified information, and continue their learning activities as usual.
Should any students requiring psychosocial support be identified, the Regional Office will coordinate with professional personnel, including psychologists and related parties, to provide trauma healing services as needed.
Mustafa emphasised that teaching and learning at MAN 3 Padang City will continue as usual. As part of efforts to rebuild a sense of safety and comfort within the madrasah, activities on the following day will begin with joint gymnastics, outbound activities, and guidance from the Koto Tangah Sector Police.
According to him, this step is not merely about restoring learning routines, but also about rebuilding students’ confidence so they can carry out their activities normally within the madrasah environment.
“We want to ensure that all students feel safe and comfortable at the madrasah. What is most important now is restoring a conducive learning atmosphere through support, guidance, and good communication between the madrasah, parents, and the relevant authorities,” said Mustafa.
The Regional Office also called on the public to remain calm and exercise wisdom in receiving information. People are urged not to readily believe or spread information whose veracity cannot be confirmed.
Mustafa and his staff have also given law enforcement officers the opportunity to complete the investigation process in accordance with applicable regulations.
“We hope all parties can work together to maintain a conducive atmosphere. Let us support the madrasah so that it remains a safe, comfortable, and conducive place for students to learn and develop,” Mustafa urged.
“The madrasah must remain a safe and comfortable learning space that shapes the character of its students. Therefore, we will continue to support the madrasah community so that the educational process runs well,” he concluded.
