Leaning Sheet Pile Discovered: PRR Task Force Coordinates with Public Works to Repair Krueng Tamiang River Embankment
Positive progress continues to be recorded during working visits by the Sumatra Post-Disaster Recovery and Reconstruction Task Force (Satgas PRR). In Kampung Raja Village, Bendahara District, Aceh Tamiang Regency, the Satgas PRR inspected the construction of the Krueng Taming River protection embankment, spanning 500 metres, on Thursday, 4 June 2026.
The embankment is designed to prevent water from overflowing into surrounding areas. This 217-kilometre river plays a crucial role in supporting the ecosystem, agriculture, mobility, and the daily lives of communities across several regencies in Aceh Province.
The infrastructure project consists of 453 metres of earth embankment and 47 metres of sheet pile, executed by PT Nindya Karya. The project commenced on 5 January 2026 and is targeted for completion by 27 June 2026.
The Krueng Tamiang River is a primary river in Aceh Province, traversing Aceh Tamiang Regency and flowing into the Strait of Malacca. Originating in East Aceh Regency, it serves as a vital artery for agricultural and fishing activities, as well as regional mobility between the Aceh and North Sumatra borders.
While work is generally proceeding according to plan, the Satgas PRR discovered leaning at several points of the installed sheet piles. In response, technical experts from the National Road Implementation Office of the Ministry of Public Works have provided technical directions to straighten the piles and accelerate equipment mobilisation to ensure timely completion.
The inspection, led by Imran, an Echelon I official from the Ministry of Home Affairs, is part of a series of inspections by the PRR Task Force’s National Command Post, spanning from Langsa to Central Aceh. During the visit, the team also noted a landslide point in Semadam Village, Kejuruan Muda District, Aceh Tamiang. The landslide remediation by PT PP is targeted for completion by August 2026 to prepare for the rainy season.
Another focus of the visit was the construction of Permanent Housing (Huntap) by the Buddha Tzu Chi Foundation, with a plan for 500 units. Field findings indicate that the first 108 units will be ready for inauguration on 14 June 2026. The Satgas PRR confirmed that these 108 units are structurally complete and are in the finishing stage, while 240 other units are undergoing foundation installation, and the remaining 152 units have yet to commence.
The total target for permanent housing in Aceh Province is 28,910 units. According to the Satgas PRR Daily Report as of 4 June 2026, 157 units have been completed, while 713 units are currently under construction.
Flood prevention efforts and the construction of permanent housing are priorities within the Sumatra Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Master Plan, which was approved by the House of Representatives (DPR), the Ministry of Finance, and the State Secretariat during a hearing on Monday, 25 May.
“We have scheduled the recovery process over three years, with a timeline extending to 2028 and annual stages,” stated the Chairman of the Satgas PRR and Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian.
