Leaked Documents Reveal Patriot Front Expansion Across 49 US States
An in-depth investigation based on leaked internal documents reveals that the Patriot Front, one of the largest white supremacist groups in the United States, is undergoing aggressive expansion. The group is reported to have added hundreds of new members spread across 49 states within the last two years.
Seventy-two-page documents obtained by USA TODAY show coordinated recruitment efforts, supported by instructional manuals and a network of fighting clubs. These locations serve as meeting points where members practice martial arts while simultaneously scouting for new recruits.
An analysis of membership lists and other internal documents reveals several crucial facts regarding the group’s operations. The Patriot Front is known for highly choreographed demonstrations where members wear identical uniforms: blue shirts, chino trousers, and white face coverings. The leaked documents reveal that this appearance is not accidental but the result of very strict internal regulations.
A multi-page PDF guide regulates everything from the specific type of shirt required (which must have two chest pockets) to methods for concealing online identities and techniques for pasting posters using a flour and water mixture to make them difficult to remove.
“No one has achieved a rebranding as successful as the Patriot Front,” said Carla Hill from the Anti-Defamation League. They utilise patriotic rhetoric such as ‘America First’ to garner sympathy from segments of the public who might otherwise reject them if they used overt neo-Nazi symbols.
Although internal manuals instruct members to avoid violent confrontation to maintain their image, the group’s track record suggests otherwise. In 2022, dozens of its members were charged with conspiracy to riot in Idaho. Other members have also been involved in acts of vandalism against Pride murals and monuments dedicated to Black figures.
Jeff Tischauser, a senior researcher at the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), emphasised that behind the mask of patriotism, the group aims to build a white ethnostate. “In the leaked messages, we know they idolise extreme figures, use racial slurs, and are very comfortable being white supremacists in private,” he concluded.
