Leaked Details of BYD Car Set to Launch in Indonesia This Afternoon
BYD Indonesia is confirmed to launch a new vehicle featuring plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) technology this afternoon, Monday (18/5/2026). Hints regarding the new model’s arrival have emerged from various social media posts and the official BYD Indonesia website, displaying vehicle silhouettes similar to the M6. The launch is scheduled for 18:00 WIB under the tagline ‘Fuel Less Feel More’.
This speculation is further supported by teasers showing a digital instrument panel featuring both battery and petrol fuel indicators, a hallmark of plug-in hybrid vehicles. If launched today, the M6 DM will become BYD’s first hybrid model in the Indonesian market. To date, the Chinese manufacturer has only marketed battery electric vehicles (BEV).
The M6 DM name is already listed on the official BYD Indonesia website alongside other models such as the Atto 1, Atto 3, Dolphin, Seal, Sealion 7, and the pure electric version of the M6. The appearance of this model was previously hinted at through an attachment in the Ministry of Home Affairs Regulation Number 11 of 2026, which included a BYD vehicle with the code MEH in the minibus segment.
In the global market, this vehicle is known as the BYD Song Max DM-i. It combines a 1,500 cc petrol engine with an electric motor producing 145 kW, or approximately 197 PS. The petrol engine delivers around 110 PS and 135 Nm of torque, while the electric motor can provide up to 325 Nm of torque. For its power source, the car is equipped with an 18.3 kWh Blade Battery, which allows for an all-electric range of approximately 105 km based on NEDC testing.
