JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The competitive landscape for Chinese car brands in Indonesia grew increasingly fierce throughout the first quarter of 2026, driven by expansions in distribution and business networks.

Amid this competition, BYD continued to lead as the top-selling Chinese car brand, with the highest sales figures for the January–March 2026 period.

According to data from the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo), total wholesale car sales in Q1/2026 reached 209,021 units, a 1.7% increase from 205,539 units in the same period the previous year.

In detail, BYD recorded wholesale sales of 12,473 units. This achievement was supported by a comprehensive product portfolio, ranging from the Atto 1, Atto 3, Sealion 7, M6, Seal, to Dolphin.

In line with its business expansion, BYD is also preparing a production facility in Subang, West Java, with a capacity of up to 150,000 units per year.

Second place went to Jaecoo with wholesale sales of 8,065 units. This performance was partly driven by the Jaecoo J5 EV, which began marketing at the end of 2025.

Meanwhile, Wuling Motors ranked third with sales of 3,594 units. The largest contribution came from its electric vehicle lineup, such as the Air EV, Binguo EV, Cloud EV, and Darion EV, which are already locally assembled in Cikarang.

Overall, the automotive market performance in March 2026 faced pressure due to the extended Eid al-Fitr holidays in 2026.
