Lead-Free Paint Deemed Essential for Supporting a Healthy Home Environment

A discussion in Jakarta has highlighted the importance of using safe building materials, particularly lead-free paint, to create a healthy home environment. The event, titled ‘Comfortable and Safe Home with Kansai Paint’, was held by PT Kansai Prakarsa Coatings and featured insights from a home living practitioner and a paediatrician. Nike Prima, Co-Founder and Creative Director of Living Loving, stated that a comfortable home is not solely determined by design but also by the quality of materials used. She noted that after having children, many families begin to pay more attention to the safety aspects of materials beyond just aesthetics. Paediatrician Dr. Maria Chrismayani Hindom added that a healthy home depends on air quality and the potential hazards of building materials. She warned that lead exposure, which can originate from dust or degrading materials, poses a significant risk, particularly to children whose nervous systems are still developing. Dr. Maria advised that parents need not panic but should understand the sources of exposure and take preventative steps, such as choosing paint that meets safety standards and is free from lead.
