LDK PP Muhammadiyah Explains Why It Supports Iran

JAKARTA — The Lembaga Dakwah Komunitas Pimpinan Pusat Muhammadiyah (LDK PP Muhammadiyah) explains the reasons for backing Iran in the conflict with the United States (US) and Israel, amid a debate that is dividing Muslims. In an official statement on its social media account, LDK PP Muhammadiyah asserted that the stance is not based on sectarian fanaticism, but on the principle of justice that determines who is oppressor and who is oppressed in a conflict that continues to heat up in the Middle East.

LDK Pimpinan Pusat Muhammadiyah explains why we support Iran in the conflict with the United States and Israel. The Middle East conflict has divided Muslims, including in Indonesia. Some support Iran, others opt for neutrality.

“These debates are not merely about geopolitics but touch on the identity of the maz (mazhab), the history of the conflict, and how we understand justice in Islam,” wrote LDK Pimpinan Pusat Muhammadiyah on its Instagram account @ldkmuofficial on Wednesday (4/3/2026).

So how should we respond? In Islam, alignment should be grounded in the principle of justice, not sectarian fanaticism.
