LDC Indonesia Head: Indonesia Not Just a Market but Asia's Agricultural Hub Amid Climate Challenges

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Global agricultural commodities trading and processing firm Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) views Indonesia as having a significant position in the global agribusiness landscape. For the company, which has operated in Indonesia since 1999, Indonesia is not only a large domestic market but also a strategic base for agricultural development across Asia. Rajat Dutt, LDC’s Country Head for Indonesia, said the country’s importance is growing due to its dual role as both a key commodity sourcing hub and an expanding market. ‘Indonesia is a crucial market within LDC’s regional and global network and a key part of the company’s growth strategy in South and Southeast Asia,’ Rajat told Kompas.com on Friday, 29 May 2026. ‘Indonesia is a vital supply source and a large domestic market. We source commodities such as coffee and palm oil products from Indonesian farmers and suppliers to meet global demand,’ he added. This aligns with LDC’s business expansion in Indonesia over the past two decades. The company has continuously expanded its integrated operations from sourcing and processing to trading various agricultural commodities such as coffee, cotton, sugar, grains, oilseeds, and fruit juices. ‘Over the past two decades, we have developed integrated operations here,’ Rajat said. LDC currently operates seven facilities: six in Lampung and one integrated palm oil refinery complex in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan. The complex includes a refinery, bulking terminal, and deep-sea port supporting the company’s supply chain. Amid strengthening Indonesia’s role in LDC’s operations, the company is also expanding its focus into downstream processing and value-added products.
