Lazada has reportedly cut around 5% of its workforce in Southeast Asia. The move is part of the e-commerce company’s efforts to ensure operations remain focused, efficient, and aligned with current business needs. “We are committed to supporting affected employees during this transition period with relevant guidance and support, in accordance with applicable regulations,” Lazada said. Lazada did not disclose which positions were affected by the termination of employment. The company only stated that it is currently reviewing certain roles across its entire operational region. Lazada currently operates in six Southeast Asian markets: Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. The exact number of employees laid off in each country was not specified. Founded in 2012, Lazada was later acquired by Alibaba Group in 2016. Lazada’s office in Singapore now serves as the regional headquarters for Alibaba’s e-commerce business in Southeast Asia. In 2024, Lazada also carried out mass layoffs of employees across Southeast Asia. At that time, the number of employees laid off reached hundreds, with Singapore reportedly being the most heavily affected operational area.
