The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, has revealed that the Layoff Mitigation Task Force, established by the President, will soon hold a coordination meeting. The primary agenda of the meeting is to discuss the mapping of areas currently affected by, or at risk of, waves of layoffs.

“Perhaps as early as next week, I have heard there will be meetings regarding the mitigation of existing layoffs,” Dasco stated during his opening remarks at the 3rd Congress of the Indonesian Confederation of Trade Unions (KSPI) in Jakarta on Sunday (7/6/2026).

Dasco explained that current global uncertainties have placed significant pressure on worker welfare, ultimately triggering labour efficiency measures across various sectors. Through the Task Force meeting, the government is committed to directly absorbing aspirations from labour union associations.

This step is being taken to obtain accurate data on which industrial sectors fall into the ‘red zone’ or are vulnerable to layoffs. “In accordance with input from trade union leaders who have provided information to the government regarding which vulnerable points are about to be impacted by layoffs,” he added.

In addition to the Layoff Mitigation Task Force, which was officially formed on 1 May 2026, Dasco also highlighted the strategic role of the Labour Desk established by the National Police (Polri). He noted that the Desk plays a crucial function in handling industrial relations issues, particularly those involving criminal aspects and rapid field responses.

He praised the effectiveness of the National Police’s Labour Desk, which has been deemed successful in assisting the relocation of workers from layoff-affected areas to regions still in need of labour. Dasco expressed hope that this success could be integrated on a larger scale through the Layoff Mitigation and Labour Welfare Task Force.

Dasco emphasised that the involvement of trade union leaders as members of the steering committee within this Task Force is a progressive step to ensure that government policies are precisely targeted. “We hope for good cooperation between all parties so that labour issues can be handled comprehensively,” he concluded.
