The Layoff Mitigation Task Force has begun mapping industrial problems in order to prevent a wave of redundancies following a coordination meeting with the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI). “Today we coordinated to map which companies are affected and what their problems are, so that we can take mitigation steps,” said Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Friday. He stated that the Layoff Mitigation Task Force is cooperating with the Police Labour Desk to monitor and exchange information regarding problems in companies that could potentially lead to layoffs. For companies with the potential to carry out layoffs, the Task Force will mitigate them one by one. In addition, the Task Force is also paying attention to companies that have already made redundancies but have not yet fulfilled their obligations. “We mitigate one by one because the problem of layoffs is not always related to raw material supply issues, for example, gas or coal. Sometimes there are also internal company management conflicts, but whatever the cause, it is our duty to jointly carry out mitigation,” he said. Prasetyo, who also serves as Chair of the Layoff Mitigation Task Force, explained that layoffs are not concentrated in a particular sector because the problems are varied. “There are those where, for example, demand has fallen. There are also those with capital problems. Capital is stored in a banking institution, and that banking institution is in trouble. This also causes problems for the company, even though the company is actually very healthy. Just because of problems with another institution in the banking sector, this also becomes problematic,” he said. Therefore, the Task Force will map these various issues in detail. Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco Ahmad affirmed the parliament’s commitment to cooperating with the government in mitigating layoffs in the country. “So, later the Layoff Mitigation Task Force, the government and the DPR, will meet regularly to coordinate. The sessions at the DPR will be led by Mr Cucun Syamsurijal (Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI),” said Dasco.
