Layered Charges for Sadistic Abuser Taufik Hidayat

West Java Regional Police have officially charged suspect Taufik Hidayat with layered offences in the case involving the false imprisonment and assault of a woman with the initials YTR. The actions of the perpetrator have been classified as sadistic. “We are applying the heaviest possible articles. The violence committed by the suspect must receive a commensurate punishment,” said West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan during a press conference at the West Java Police Headquarters in Bandung, as reported by detikJabar on Friday (26/6/2026). Rudi detailed several articles being brought against Taufik Hidayat. Firstly, the suspect is charged under Article 446, paragraph 2. Under Law Number 1 of 2023, Article 466, paragraph 2 specifically states that if the act results in serious injury, the perpetrator shall be punished with a maximum imprisonment of 5 years. In the context of this case, the article is applied because the victim, YTR, suffered serious physical injuries, including permanent damage to her eyesight. “We are layering this with a more severe article, Article 451, which carries a maximum penalty of 12 years in prison,” Rudi stated. Article 451 relates to hostage-taking, specifically anyone who detains another person using violence or the threat of violence with the intent to unlawfully place that person under their control or in a helpless state. This article was applied because Taufik Hidayat’s actions were not merely ordinary confinement but involved systematic violence to completely dominate the victim in a helpless condition. Furthermore, Taufik is charged under Article 446, which in the new Criminal Code regulates the deprivation of liberty. Paragraph 2 of this article specifies confinement resulting in serious injury, carrying a maximum penalty of 9 years in prison. “We are combining this with Article 126, paragraph 2. The threat is 9 years,” Rudi added. Taufik Hidayat is currently undergoing intensive examination at the West Java Police Headquarters. Police are continuing to investigate the motive behind the brutal confinement and assault suffered by the victim YTR. “The suspect’s actions are abnormal and sadistic. We jointly condemn this act of violence committed by the suspect,” Rudi asserted.
