Lawyer's Home in East Jakarta Firebombed; Neighbours Reported Suspicious Activity
The home of a lawyer named Sulardi in the Ciracas area of East Jakarta was firebombed by an unknown person. Sulardi stated that neighbours had become suspicious of parties loitering in the area several days before the incident.
Sulardi said the event occurred on Thursday (3/7/2026) at 02:30 WIB at his residence in Ciracas. He noted that on Monday (29/7), neighbours had already suspected individuals of moving around his home.
“On Monday night, there were indeed parties that the neighbours suspected. The friends hanging out in front suspected they were not locals, but new people, strangers,” Sulardi said when contacted by journalists on Sunday (5/7).
He said there were parties asking questions of the surrounding neighbours. However, Sulardi’s neighbours did not recognise these individuals. “Observing the situation, going back and forth, looking at the surroundings, then asking questions here and there. It was as if they were looking for something, wanting to buy something. But the indication was that the neighbours and friends did not know who they were,” he revealed.
At the time of the incident, Sulardi claimed he woke up at 02:00 WIB to pray. Neighbours then shouted and called out after the unknown assailant threw the Molotov cocktail in front of his house. “Then, as it happened, I woke up at 02:15 WIB. At 02:15, after I was preparing to take a shower, it turned out someone was shouting from outside, calling out. ‘Pak Haji, Pak Haji, Pak Haji’. So then I went out. When I went out, there was a fire burning,” he explained.
He said that as a result of the incident, his gate caught fire. Fortunately, the fire was extinguished and did not spread. “Only the gate, the gate was affected. But because the oil was underneath, the bottom part was what burned,” he said.
Police Check CCTV
It was previously reported that the police are still investigating the case of the Molotov cocktail attack at the home of lawyer Sulardi in the Ciracas area, East Jakarta. Currently, police are reviewing CCTV footage from around the location to hunt for the perpetrator.
“Yes, of course the police are checking CCTV at the location,” said the Head of Public Relations for the East Jakarta Metro Police, AKP Made Budi, when asked for confirmation on Saturday (4/7).
Made said two witnesses have been examined regarding this case. Based on witness statements, the Molotov cocktail attack was allegedly carried out by two people riding a motorcycle together. “According to the statements of witnesses at the scene, the act was carried out by two suspected perpetrators using a motorcycle carrying a bottle containing a substance suspected to be a Molotov cocktail,” he said.
