Lawyers fail to meet governor

SEMARANG: Central Java governor Soewardi rejected four lawyers yesterday from the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (LBH) who intended to have a discussion about the fate of displaced villagers in Kedungombo.

The lawyers, led by Adnan Buyung Nasution, wanted to talk about a Supreme Court ruling that granted 34 displaced farmers compensation higher than the local government was willing to offer.

The lawyers were rejected by the governor's staff who told them that they should have made an appointment first. (har/par)
