JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The legal team for Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of KontraS, has requested that the TNI’s Military Police Command (Puspom TNI) hand over four of its soldiers involved in the acid attack to the police.

The four soldiers are currently being held at Puspom TNI.

“We urge Puspom TNI, which has already arrested and secured the perpetrators, to hand them over to the Metro Jaya Police,” said M Fadhil Alfathan, Director of the Jakarta Legal Aid Institute (LBH Jakarta) and a member of Andrie Yunus’s legal team, at the YLBHI office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (18/3/2026).

Furthermore, he stated that the handover to the police also considers the relatively more accountable process in the general judiciary.

His side acknowledged sanctions under the military justice system, referring to past judicial experiences.

Fadhil then alluded to several studies conducted by KontraS on the military justice system, which is vulnerable to impunity for fellow agency members.

One of them occurred when military perpetrators were punished lightly or not punished at all.

“Because the perpetrator, the prosecutor, and the judge are in the same institution and under the ‘corps spirit’, namely the TNI corps spirit,” Fadhil explained.

Fadhil also reminded that from the outset, the acid attack case on Andrie Yunus falls under general criminal law.

This is because a human rights activist was openly attacked.

It was previously reported that four TNI soldiers were involved in the acid attack on Andrie Yunus.

TNI Danpuspom Major General Yusri Nuryanto stated that his side had received the four suspects on Wednesday morning.

“This morning I received four individuals suspected of carrying out the assault on Andrie Yunus,” Yusri said during a press conference at TNI Headquarters in Jakarta on Wednesday.
