Lawyer's Condition Following Stabbing by Debt Collectors in Tangerang

A lawyer named Bastian Sori (40) was stabbed by a group of debt collectors, also known as ‘mata elang’ (matel), in the Kelapa Dua area, Tangerang Regency. As a result of the incident, the victim sustained three stab wounds.

“The victim suffered two stab wounds to the abdomen and one stab wound to the back,” said the Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Regional Police, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, in a statement on Tuesday (24 February 2026).

Bastian was immediately taken to the nearest clinic. However, due to the severity of his injuries, the victim was referred to a hospital in the Karawaci area.

“Because the victim’s injuries were quite serious, he was rushed to Siloam International Hospital Lippo Karawaci Kelapa Dua,” he added.

Budi Hermanto said that the case is being handled by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the South Tangerang Police. The police are currently investigating the perpetrators.

“The perpetrators are still being investigated by the South Tangerang Police,” he added.

Separately, the Chief of the South Tangerang Police, AKBP Boy Jumalolo, said that his team had been deployed to the scene. The police have also questioned a number of witnesses.

“Several witnesses have been questioned in order to take action and arrest the arrogant debt collectors,” said Boy Jumalolo, as reported by Antara.

In addition, Boy Jumalolo visited the victim, who was lying in hospital receiving treatment for his stab wounds at the Tangerang Regency General Hospital.

“We will take firm action against the group of debt collectors who are causing unrest in the South Tangerang Police area,” he said.

This incident has gone viral on social media. The perpetrators had been involved in a verbal altercation with the victim.

It was reported that the incident occurred when the perpetrators were trying to forcibly seize the victim’s Toyota Fortuner vehicle. However, the victim refused because the seizure of the vehicle was not in accordance with the applicable regulations.

The perpetrators then stabbed the victim in the abdomen. This incident occurred in front of the victim’s wife.
