Jakarta - Roy Suryo’s lawyer, Ahmad Khozinudin, has requested that the South Jakarta District Prosecutor’s Office act professionally and not detain his client during the phase two handover process. “As long as law enforcement can proceed without detention, then detention becomes unnecessary,” Khozinudin said at Polda Metro Jaya on Monday. He was accompanying Roy Suryo, who was being transferred from the Kramat Jati Police Hospital to Polda Metro Jaya to complete administrative procedures before being handed over to the prosecutor’s office along with case evidence. He considered the administrative process at the police investigation stage to be excessive, arguing that investigators had other legal options besides arrest or detention. “One of them is through a formal summons mechanism regulated in the Criminal Procedure Code,” Khozinudin stated. He further compared his client’s case to an alleged defamation case involving Haris Azhar and Fatia Maulidiyanti, where the legal process proceeded to trial without the suspects being detained. He also argued that the primary offence charged against Roy Suryo is defamation and slander, similar to the Haris-Fatia case. He regretted the addition of charges related to electronic data manipulation under the Electronic Information and Transactions Law. “Do not extend it with irrelevant offences, such as the offence of editing or manipulating electronic data. We understand this additional charge is merely a pretext to enable detention,” Khozinudin said. “In fact, if referring to the defamation article in the Criminal Code, the penalty threat is below four years,” he added. He therefore hopes the South Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office will objectively consider the principle of justice and reflect on the handling of other cases in the same jurisdiction so that the prosecutor’s office is not perceived by the public as acting arbitrarily. Previously, suspects in the alleged defamation and slander case regarding the authenticity of the diploma of Indonesia’s 7th President Joko Widodo, Roy Suryo and Tifauzia Tyassuma, also known as Doctor Tifa, were reported to be soon transferred from the Kramat Jati Police Hospital to the Polda Metro Jaya detention centre. “The latest update is that suspects Tifauzia Tyassuma and Roy Suryo will be taken from the Kramat Jati Hospital tonight and held overnight at the Polda Metro Jaya Detention Centre,” said Polda Metro Jaya Head of Public Relations, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday. He said the transfer was carried out ahead of the phase two handover to the South Jakarta District Prosecutor’s Office, which was planned for Monday, 22 June 2026.
