Lawyer Dismisses Rp30 Billion Customs Case Claim as Defendant's Allegation
The lawyer for former Head of the Marunda Customs Supervision and Service Office (KPPBC), Ahmad Dedi alias Dedi Congor, Hamonangan Daulay, stated that the admission by Blueray Cargo Group executive John Field, who allegedly handed over Rp30 billion to his client, is a unilateral claim. Hamonangan said the statement must be further proven. “We submit that the statement is a unilateral claim made during the trial and its legal truth must still be proven based on valid evidence according to the law,” Hamonangan told CNNIndonesia.com in a written statement on Friday (12/6).
Hamonangan stressed that his side rejects any premature judgment and the formation of public opinion that assumes the accusation has already been proven. In a state of law, he explained, every person is entitled to the protection of the presumption of innocence until a final and binding court decision is reached. “We respect the ongoing trial process and give the panel of judges the opportunity to objectively assess all facts, testimonies, and evidence presented in court,” Hamonangan said. “We invite all parties to exercise restraint, respect the judicial process, and not draw conclusions before this case is decided with permanent legal force,” he continued.
Previously, during the examination hearing, defendant John Field admitted to spending a total of Rp91 billion for several officials at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise under the Ministry of Finance. Of that amount, Rp30 billion was given to Dedi Congor. In the hearing, John Field stated that Dedi Congor worked for the State Intelligence Agency (BIN). “In the indictment it’s only 61 (billion). I am also worried if this is revealed, if we don’t reveal it, you might be charged again as a (bribe) giver. I want this to be clear, sir. This 91 (billion) has been revealed during the investigation, but the indictment says 61 (billion). Can you explain the 91 (billion) minus 61 (billion), meaning there is another 30 billion, sir,” asked John Field’s lawyer at the Corruption Court (Tipikor) at the Central Jakarta District Court on Friday (12/6).
“The 30 (billion), I gave Rp5 billion every month. (The money) Rp5 billion to Mr Dedi, who I know is in an agency, I don’t know if he is in Customs, I know he is in BIN,” John Field answered. He recounted meeting Dedi’s staff named Alex after being introduced by someone named Tuti, referring to Sri Pangestuti, a Customs Service Entrepreneur (PPJK). “This is Ahmad Dedi, right?” the lawyer confirmed. “Yes, Ahmad Dedi, because his status in BIN is as treasurer of PPIR (Purnawirawan Pejuang Indonesia Raya), for PPIR assistance because he is the treasurer,” John Field said. “But the handover was to him, right? He received it?” the lawyer interjected. “To his staff,” John Field replied. “Alex,” he continued.
Dedi Congor was previously examined as a witness by KPK investigators on Friday, 8 May 2026. News about him went viral on social media because when journalists tried to confirm the matter, Dedi Congor fled. Meanwhile, KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that investigators suspect there was a flow of money related to the customs case to Dedi Congor. “There is an allegation of receipt by the person concerned in the processing of customs or importation of goods,” Budi said at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building, Jakarta, on Friday (8/5).
John Field is charged with bribing several officials at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise with a total of Rp61 billion and providing entertainment facilities and luxury goods worth Rp1.8 billion. The bribery was allegedly carried out by John Field together with Defendant II Dedy Kurniawan Sukolo, Operational Manager of Port Customs Clearance at Blueray Cargo (Group), and Defendant III Andri, Head of the Import Document Team at Blueray Cargo (Group).
