The legal counsel for MR (15) claims they have not yet received a suspect determination letter regarding the case of three students who were burned at the Rosudatussaulatiyah Al Ibrahimy Islamic Boarding School in Aik Darek Village, Batukliang District, Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. “To this day, we as legal counsel, nor MR and his parents, have never received a letter of suspect determination,” said MR’s attorney, Aan Ramadhan, in Mataram on Wednesday (15/7/2026).

Aan revealed that the family only received a notification letter regarding the progress of the investigation (SP2HP) from the Central Lombok Police. He questioned the news of MR being named a suspect. “We asked the family and MR himself, did you receive a letter (of suspect determination)? They answered, ‘We received a letter, but it was only an SP2HP. Not a suspect determination.’ This means that if someone is a suspect, there must be a letter of suspect determination,” Aan added.

Aan plans to visit the police to inquire about MR’s suspect determination letter. He stated that MR has also not been examined as a suspect to date. “He has not been examined as a suspect. We will cross-check the determination and everything else, we haven’t received anything,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Central Lombok Police, AKP Punguan Hutahaean, stated that the suspect determination letter had been sent. He confirmed that the letter was received directly by MR’s family. “It has been sent, complete with a photo and an expedition signature,” said Punguan.

Previously, the police named MR as a suspect in the burning case of three students at the Rosudatussaulatiyah Al Ibrahimy Islamic Boarding School in Central Lombok. In addition to MR, the police also named the head of the boarding school, Ahmad Muzakki Rahmatullah, or AMR, as a suspect. Both are charged under Article 474 paragraphs 2 and 3 of the Criminal Code.

The case of a student allegedly burned by a friend at the Rosudatussaulatiyah Al Ibrahimy Islamic Boarding School in Central Lombok actually occurred on 13 December 2025. However, the police only began an investigation in early June 2026 after the victims reported the incident. Two of the victims, Ahmad Deven Ramdan (14) and Sahid Al Hudri (14), suffered burns as a result of the incident, while another student, identified by the initials SS (14), died.
