Lawyer asks court to arrest judge
MALAYSIA: Lawyers for jailed politician Anwar Ibrahim asked a
court in Kuala Lumpur on Friday to issue an arrest order for a
judge accused of contempt for comments he made during the former
deputy prime minister's trial two years ago.
High Court Justice Augustine Paul did not attend court on
Friday when contempt proceedings against him began, angering the
lawyer who claims the judge abused him.
"He has shown disrespect to your lordship, for which he should
be punished appropriately," lawyer Christopher Fernando told High
Court Justice Mashin Mohamad Yusoff, urging him to have Augustine
arrested.
Mashin did not issue the arrest order, and set Feb. 11 as the
new date for the hearing. He said it would be up to Augustine
whether to attend. --AP
