Lawmaker says disaster recovery data in North Sumatra must be accurate
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of Commission X of the DPR RI, Sabam Sinaga, believes that accelerating the post-flood recovery in North Sumatra must be supported by accurate and verified data so that efforts to improve and restore the disaster-affected area can be more targeted.
“So, we really need to know the disaster data precisely, so that based on this data, the intervention for its recovery will be more targeted,” he said in an official press release received in Jakarta on Wednesday.
According to him, the impact of the disaster is not only felt physically, but also has an impact on the economic condition of the community, especially families with school-aged children.
“Therefore, in our meeting with BPS, we conveyed that the data must be valid, there is no overlap, so that later the handling will be completed according to the existing data,” said Sabam.
“So, with valid data, government intervention will be more targeted, including in it, the houses, schools, and how many children were affected,” said the politician from the Democratic Party faction.
He also highlighted the potential trauma experienced by educators and child victims of the disaster. To address this, he encouraged the government to collect data on students and educators who have experienced trauma so that psychological recovery approaches can be carried out appropriately.
“When the data on school children affected by the disaster is obtained, the approach to changing or healing their psychology will be much more targeted,” he explained.
Furthermore, Sabam said that it is necessary to synchronise and re-verify the data generated by various ministries and agencies to prevent overlaps.
He believes that a single, verified data source is an important basis for conveying information to the public and the government.
“In my opinion, a single data source is data that must be verified, so that is the correct data that will be conveyed to the public, including also to the government,” said Sabam.
As part of the DPR’s supervisory function, Sabam affirmed that his party will continue to monitor the government and all parties so that the improvement of this data can be carried out as soon as possible.
