Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of Commission VI of the Indonesian House of Representatives, M. Sarmuji, encouraged the government to review all regulations that hinder investment permits, following President Prabowo Subianto’s appeal on Wednesday (13/5).

“All regulations that hinder investment permits must be reviewed. There used to be a term for this, deregulation,” Sarmuji said in a statement in Jakarta, Friday.

According to him, the government and other relevant parties need to simplify the investment permit process, including by synchronising regulations that have been deemed to hinder investment.

The lawmaker in charge of trade and business competition supervision also emphasised the importance of strengthening coordination between agencies, both vertically and horizontally, so that permit services can run more effectively and efficiently.

He believes that the complexity of the permit system in Indonesia is partly due to the overlapping regulations between the central government and regional governments.

“One of the factors is the disharmony or overlap of regulations, both at the central and regional levels, and it even seems like there is a competition for authority. There is a weakness in coordination, both vertically and horizontally,” he said.

He said that the complicated process of obtaining permits has been ongoing for a long time and has not been completely resolved. Therefore, he expressed his gratitude that President Prabowo is paying serious attention to this issue.

“All officials from all ministries/agencies are looking for ways to improve the system, reduce inefficiencies, simplify permits, and not make them more difficult. Business people are also complaining, they want to work and they want to invest, but sometimes they have to wait for permits for one or two years,” said the President.

The President then asked the Minister of State Secretary, Prasetyo Hadi, to form a special deregulation task force to simplify the various overlapping regulations.

He affirmed that business people who work properly must be given full support so that they can create jobs and strengthen the national economy.

“Business people must be helped and supported. We will take action against those who are naughty, but those who are good and really want to work must be helped. Many investors from abroad also complain that in Indonesia, permits often take a very long time and there are many of them,” said the President.
