Lawmaker Hopes Trial Will Clarify Jokowi Diploma Issue

Abdullah, a member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), hopes that the trial regarding the alleged defamation case related to the diploma of Indonesia’s 7th President, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), held at the East Jakarta District Court, can end the ongoing polemic within society. He noted that the diploma case has caused significant public unrest and has been prolonged.

“This issue has persisted for quite some time and has caused commotion among the public. We hope the trial can provide clarity so that this polemic can be resolved thoroughly,” Abdullah told reporters on Friday (3/7/2026).

Abdullah stated that the public’s energy and thoughts should not be exhausted debating matters that lack legal certainty. He mentioned that there are many other national issues that require the attention of all parties.

“We must not allow the public’s mind to be consumed by unclear issues. There are still many important problems that require our collective attention,” he said.

He expressed hope that the trial process regarding the Jokowi diploma case would proceed smoothly and professionally. This, he continued, would ensure that public attention is not solely focused on the unresolved diploma issue.

“We leave the matter entirely to the law enforcement agencies. Let the legal process proceed professionally, independently, and in accordance with the applicable regulations,” said Abdullah.

“Most importantly, this diploma issue must be resolved immediately so that it no longer causes unrest and the public can refocus on various important agendas for the nation’s progress,” he added.

The trial of Tifauzia Tyassuma, also known as dr Tifa, regarding the allegations of President Joko Widodo’s fake diploma, has commenced. She has been charged with criminal defamation and libel against Jokowi regarding these allegations.

The first hearing for dr Tifa was held at the East Jakarta District Court on Thursday (2/7). Dr Tifa is alleged to have used social media to spread information claiming that Jokowi’s diploma was forged during his time in office.

Dr Tifa has rejected offers to pursue a peaceful settlement regarding the indictment. Jokowi himself is reportedly prepared to attend the upcoming trial and present his original diploma.
