PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Integrated Terminal Semarang (IT Semarang) has introduced the Lawang Cemoro programme (Gateway of Hope for the People of North Semarang). This programme represents a form of social innovation aimed at empowering communities to address various problems encompassing economic, social, and environmental aspects.

The programme has been implemented by Pertamina Patra Niaga in the slum area of Tanjung Mas Ward, North Semarang, covering 17.34 hectares (Ha). In this area, Pertamina Patra Niaga found facts indicating 24 tonnes of waste generation per day in the community. Additionally, 79 malnourished toddlers were identified in the ward, marking the highest case in Semarang City.

Other facts include 68 pregnant women with high health risks. There were also 25 reported cases of violence against women and children from 2023 to 2025, not including unreported cases. Furthermore, there are 4,235 poor individuals and 5,461 vulnerable poor people in Tanjung Mas Ward.

Through the Lawang Cemoro programme, Pertamina Patra Niaga seeks to contribute to eradicating poverty, ending hunger, providing good health and well-being, ensuring access to clean water and proper sanitation, delivering clean and affordable energy, and creating decent jobs and economic growth.

The Lawang Cemoro programme, initiated by Pertamina Patra Niaga, features several advantages. First, Rumah Sehat Pertamina, an integrated service including support for violence victims, parenting classes, and recording and reporting of violence cases by the Kelompok Sahabat Perempuan dan Anak (SAPA) group.

Second, Support for Violence Victims, involving case accompaniment by the SAPA group, enabling victims to more confidently share their experiences and receive safe counselling. Third, Green House, the development of plants and hydroponics (vegetables, fruits, and family medicinal plants) to support the provision of supplementary feeding materials and increase group income by Rp 500,000 per month.

Fourth, Sistem Filterisasi Air Ramah Lingkungan (SITIRTA), an environmentally friendly water filtration system based on solar panels that produces usable water and has successfully utilised 36 m² of water while saving Rp 3.35 million in water purchase costs. Fifth, Petasol, plastic waste converted into alternative fuel, which can be used for fishing boat engines, construction diesel engines, generators, and other non-public vehicle engines.

Sixth, Mesin Pengering Sampah Plastik dengan Poros Jari Pengganti Tangan (POJA PETA), a plastic waste drying machine with finger shaft replacing hands, used to dry and clean plastic waste before pyrolysis with a processing capacity of 7 kg per cycle.

Thanks to the implementation of the Lawang Cemoro programme, nine community members have successfully escaped poverty with an income increase of Rp 542,222 per month. Subsequently, 14 women have gained employment and income through integrated farming activities in the KWT Tunas Bahagia group, with an income increase of Rp 500,000 per month.

Furthermore, 25 victims of Domestic Violence (KDRT) have accessed services through Rumah Sehat Pertamina, including reporting services for KDRT victims, family accompaniment (parenting), psychological corner counselling, and support for victims. Additionally, one former KDRT victim has joined the SAPA group and become part of the anti-KDRT activists.

Notably, 11 Individuals with Mental Disorders (ODGJ) have received monthly mental health services, including health check-ups, therapy activities, and skills training. Moreover, 21 elderly individuals have gained new knowledge and income sources from the group’s activities.

On the other hand, Pertamina Patra Niaga Integrated Terminal Semarang is also committed to prioritising sustainable environmental governance. This is evidenced by the company’s success in improving energy efficiency through electricity savings of 134,222.175 GJ via the Fastest DCV innovation programme.

Additionally, the company has recorded success in reducing emissions through the Anti Pindah Pindah Innovation programme, which has improved environmental quality by reducing conventional emissions by 560.250 tonnes of VOC.

Next, there is the Seal Cycle Innovation programme, which implements Extended Producer’s Responsibility (EPR) and reduces waste by 0.384 tonnes.

Furthermore, water use efficiency is realised through the Portable Transfer programme, achieving a reduction in consumption of 1,320 m³.

In terms of hazardous waste management, the company applies the Pres Line programme, which reduces hazardous waste of used seals by 0.902 tonnes.

As part of strengthening environmental innovation, through the flagship Eco Innovation programme, namely BoBoBox, PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Integrated Terminal Semarang has introduced an innovation for providing closed-circuit fuel sample collection facilities in the receiving manifold area to prevent oil spills and reduce hazardous waste from used seals. This innovation addresses the degradation of fuel quality in the interface process, which previously caused inefficiencies of up to 2,310.145 kL. Based on a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) study, BoBoBox has proven to reduce various environmental impacts while supporting the implementation of circular economy principles.

On that basis, Pertamina Patra Niaga Integrated Terminal Semarang has successfully received the PROPER Gold award for 2025 from the Ministry of Environment for its dedication to the environment. This achievement stems from the company’s efforts in environmental management in both operational aspects and for the surrounding community.
