Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas has stated that the policy on increasing Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) tariffs in the field of citizenship will be reviewed. The step is being taken in response to various criticisms and input from the public regarding the policy.

At a press conference in Jakarta on Friday (24/7), Supratman explained that an evaluation would be carried out promptly through an internal meeting. The agenda involves the Directorate General of General Legal Administration (AHU) and the Directorate General of Intellectual Property.

Supratman acknowledged that the PNBP tariff provisions set out in Government Regulation (PP) No. 30 of 2026 were proposed by the Ministry of Law to the President. He therefore stressed that his ministry bears full responsibility for making improvements if matters requiring evaluation are found.

“The evaluation is being carried out in response to various inputs from the public, without disregarding the objectives behind the formulation of the policy,” Supratman said.

Although the increase will be reviewed, Supratman emphasised that the proposed tariff rise had in fact gone through an in-depth study process before being submitted. He also compared Indonesia’s scheme with that of other countries, where many nations already charge fees from the initial application stage, even though approval is not guaranteed. In contrast, in Indonesia, fees are only charged once a citizenship application has been approved.

According to the established schedule, PP No. 30 of 2026 was supposed to come into effect on 1 August 2026. However, with the planned evaluation, the ministry will reconsider the implementation of the tariffs to ensure they remain aligned with public aspirations.
