The Ministry of Law (Kemenkum) has proposed an additional budget of Rp837.18 billion for the 2027 fiscal year to support the fulfilment of its duties and functions, including the rehabilitation of office buildings and official residences. Speaking at a working meeting with Commission XIII of the House of Representatives (DPR) in Jakarta on Wednesday, Deputy Minister of Law Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej detailed the additional budget request of Rp837,185,623,000. The allocation is focused on fulfilling the ministry’s duties to support the achievement of bureaucratic reform index targets (Rp181.88 billion), civil servant (ASN) training in law and competency assessments (Rp11.28 billion), the operation of the Pengayoman Indonesia Polytechnic official school (Rp2.84 billion), and work audits (Rp7.5 billion). Further allocations include improving the quality of regulatory formation (Rp11.49 billion), fostering legal literacy and culture while providing legal aid to the poor (Rp35.63 billion), and advancing national law development (Rp11 billion). The ministry’s total indicative budget ceiling for 2027, set by a joint letter from the Minister of Finance and the Minister of National Development Planning, amounts to Rp3.4 trillion. However, Commission XIII of the DPR did not agree with the allocation of the additional budget for purposes outside its core functions. The commission urged the ministry to focus on legal aid post programmes, particularly regarding the dissemination of legislation. Commission XIII Chairman Willy Aditya stated that the commission rejects the proposed budget increases for revitalising office facilities, rehabilitating office buildings and official residences, as they do not reflect the government efficiency principles of President Prabowo Subianto. Additionally, the commission encouraged the allocation of the legal aid budget by involving civil society organisations and regional legal aid institutions.
