Law Minister Welcomes Domestic Workers Protection Bill to DPR Plenary, References Prabowo's Wishes

Minister of Law (Menkum) Supratman Andi Agtas has warmly welcomed the Domestic Workers Protection Bill (RUU PPRT) being brought to the plenary session tomorrow for approval as law. Supratman noted that this aligns with the wishes of President Prabowo Subianto. “For the government, this is a moment of joy because, as far as I recall, Mr President Prabowo Subianto recently, in line with the demands from friends across all labour unions, expressed his desire for this bill to be completed,” said Supratman after a plenary meeting with the DPR’s Legislation Body (Baleg), at the Parliamentary Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (20/4/2026). Supratman admitted to being pleased that the bill will soon be enacted as law. He described the process for the RUU PPRT as swift because it originated as a DPR initiative. “And alhamdulillah, the DPR leadership and all friends in Baleg have managed to complete it. This is certainly a joy for the government; the bill has finally come to fruition because it is a DPR initiative,” he added. Previously, Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI Sufmi Dasco Ahmad stated that this product from the DPR’s Baleg would serve as a gift for workers up to the commemoration of Kartini Day, which falls tomorrow. “A May Day gift, Kartini Day gift. For tomorrow’s Kartini Day. Insyaallah, tomorrow. Tomorrow in the plenary, insyaallah,” said Dasco after the RUU PPRT plenary meeting at the Parliamentary Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (20/4/2026) evening. Dasco explained the reasons behind the rapid discussion of the RUU PPRT. He emphasised that the bill has been a DPR commitment for 22 years. “If the question is why, we have been tasked by the public to complete several laws that we have also promised to the people. Today, we are completing the Domestic Workers Bill, which has been pending for 22 years; we are finalising it,” he said. The daily chairman of the Gerindra Party’s DPP stated that there are still several bills that the DPR must complete. He mentioned that the DPR RI will address several long-standing tasks that need resolution. “And there are still several laws, such as the Indigenous Peoples Law, which has also been pending for 20 years; we, along with friends in Baleg and the government, will also complete it,” said Dasco. “And there is still the Witness and Victim Protection Law, the Labour Law which we have already started discussing, and the Asset Forfeiture Law. So, insyaallah this year, we may complete several that have indeed become our homework,” he continued.
