Law Minister urges sports industry to register intellectual property rights
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Law (Menkum) Supratman Andi Agtas has urged the sports industry to register intellectual property rights during the World Intellectual Property Day commemoration held in Central Jakarta on Sunday.
In his speech at the event, Supratman stated that sports have now transformed. Sports are no longer just for maintaining health but have become an industry with extraordinary capitalisation.
Within the sports industry, he said, there are intellectual property rights, both trademarks and patents.
“Almost all products we use today, whether clothes, trousers, shoes, rackets, bicycles, balls, or anything else we use, have at least two intellectual property tools attached to them,” he remarked.
According to him, this intellectual property must be protected to also impact the economic benefits within it.
“It’s not just for the benefit of business owners, but most importantly, with industrialisation and commercialisation, it will certainly bring extraordinary economic impacts. Job absorption will improve even better,” he said.
Therefore, he invited the public to promote the registration of intellectual property rights, especially for the sports industry.
“Because it’s not just for providing protection, but more importantly, behind intellectual property rights, there is economic benefit, there is commercialisation value,” he stated.
Furthermore, he welcomed the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora), which is currently conducting an open bidding for the position of Deputy for Sports Industry Development.
He also hopes that the Ministry of Law (Kemenkum) and Kemenpora can collaborate in developing the sports industry by protecting intellectual property.
“The Ministry of Law, especially the Directorate General of Intellectual Property, will continue to strive, not only to provide protection in the form of intellectual property rights certificates, but we will collaborate,” he said.
The Directorate General of Intellectual Property of the Indonesian Ministry of Law held the World Intellectual Property Day commemoration event with the theme “Intellectual Property and Sports: Ready to Innovate.”
At this event, Minister Supratman Andi Agtas directly handed out certificates related to intellectual property rights, one of which was a copyright certificate.
