Law Minister Urges HMI Cadres to Set Aside Short-Term Interests

Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas has urged HMI cadres to set aside short-term interests and hatred for the sake of the nation.

He made the remarks while attending the National Discussion of the Islamic Students Association Alumni Corps (KAHMI) at the Ministry of Law on Sunday (23/8).

“HMI was established for the sake of the nation and to defend the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia,” Supratman said in a written statement.

Supratman also encouraged KAHMI to create a forum that does not merely discuss case after case. According to him, the nation is too small if every case is debated until it becomes ‘bloody’.

Supratman expressed hope that the wider KAHMI family and the general public would offer criticism of the ministry he leads.

“Every Friday I provide a public complaints forum, which is broadcast live, as a sign that the government is open and continues to improve,” he said.

According to Supratman, this is a way to transform the bureaucracy and open up while also seeking public participation.

For the sake of establishing good bureaucratic order, he invited the public to help the President oversee the bureaucracy.

“The President wants a transparent and accountable bureaucracy,” he said.

In addition to the Law Minister, the KAHMI Discussion and Healthy Walk was also attended by figures such as Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra, Constitutional Court Justice Arsul Sani, Director General of Immigration Hendarsam Marantoko, and several other figures.
