Law Minister: Paulus Tannos extradition process to be decided in August
Jakarta - Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas has stated that the extradition process for fugitive Paulus Tannos, also known as Thian Po Tjhin, will be decided by a Singapore court in August 2026. To date, the extradition of Tannos is still ongoing after the Singapore High Court rejected the application by the suspect in the electronic KTP corruption case. “There is still not much time left, if I am not mistaken in August, it will be decided in the Singapore Court,” said Supratman after attending the ‘Pasti Ada Solusi’ event in Jakarta on Friday. Following the rejection of the application related to Tannos’s extradition by the Singapore High Court on Friday (29/5), the committal hearing for the case will be reconvened in August 2026. The hearing will be scheduled to hear the final submissions from each party, including the Indonesian government represented by the Singapore Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) and Paulus Tannos’s legal counsel. The committal hearing with the agenda of final submissions is the determinative stage in court, where the judge hears the closing arguments and conclusions from each disputing party before issuing a committal order. “We at the Directorate of Central Authority and International Law, together with all law enforcement officials, in this case the KPK, continue to coordinate regarding this matter,” Supratman said when met in Jakarta on Friday (5/6). The KPK is also committed to resolving the case involving Tannos once the extradition is realised. “The presence of the suspect in Indonesia will be very important to ensure the judicial process can run effectively and to provide legal certainty for all parties,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to journalists in Jakarta on Friday (5/6). On 13 August 2019, the KPK named Paulus Tannos a suspect in the development of the electronic KTP corruption case, which allegedly caused state losses of up to Rp2.3 trillion. However, Tannos fled abroad and changed his identity. He was subsequently placed on the wanted list (DPO) by the anti-corruption commission as of 19 October 2021. Paulus Tannos has now been arrested by Singaporean authorities, and the Indonesian government has submitted an extradition request to the Singaporean government.
