Law Minister Launches Digital Showcase for Geographical Indication Products
Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas officially launched the Indonesian Geographical Indication Products Showcase on the Tokopedia and TikTok Shop applications at Graha Pengayoman, Jakarta, on Thursday, 2 July 2026. The showcase, a collaboration between the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI) and the two digital platforms, represents an effort to broaden the marketing of Geographical Indication products while enhancing their economic value through digital channels. This showcase is the first national promotional space specifically designed to aggregate and market Indonesian geographical indication products within a single digital platform. Through this showcase, the public can not only obtain authentic geographical indication products but also access information regarding their origin, characteristics, reputation, and the legal guarantee of authenticity for products that have received legal protection. Director General of Intellectual Property Hermansyah Siregar stated that the launch of the Indonesian Geographical Indication Products Showcase embodies the transformation of DJKI’s services, which do not stop at granting legal protection. According to him, such protection must be able to drive economic utilisation so that it provides real benefits to communities in the products’ regions of origin. ‘The launch of the Indonesian Geographical Indication Products Showcase is proof that intellectual property protection does not end with the issuance of a certificate. The state’s duty is to ensure that this protection delivers real economic benefits to the community through expanded market access and increased competitiveness of regional superior products,’ said Hermansyah. He explained that the presence of this showcase is a strategic step by DJKI in building an ecosystem that connects legal protection with digital marketing. Consequently, geographical indication products are expected to become more widely known, trusted, and capable of competing in both national and global markets. To date, Indonesia has 271 registered geographical indication products, comprising 255 domestic products and 16 from overseas. This achievement makes Indonesia the country with the highest number of registered geographical indication products in the ASEAN region, while also demonstrating the significant potential of regional superior products for further development. Director of Trademarks and Geographical Indications Fajar Sulaeman Taman explained that the launch of this showcase is a follow-up to DJKI’s commitment to expanding market access for geographical indication rights holders. Prior to the launch, DJKI had also facilitated mentoring for geographical indication owners to enable them to open shops and upload their products to Tokopedia and TikTok Shop so they could join the showcase. ‘The Indonesian Geographical Indication Products Showcase serves as a collective promotional space for all products. We hope that more geographical indication rights holders will utilise this platform so that regional superior products become better known to the public, gain consumer trust, and possess stronger competitiveness,’ said Fajar. Fajar noted that members of the public wishing to obtain authentic geographical indication products can visit the digital showcase via the ‘Beli Lokal’ menu on Tokopedia and TikTok Shop. The presence of the showcase is expected to strengthen the branding of regional superior products while increasing added value for farmers, fishermen, artisans, business actors, and communities in the products’ areas of origin. Through the Indonesian Geographical Indication Products Showcase, DJKI hopes that legal protection for geographical indications can proceed in tandem with sustainable economic utilisation. This initiative is part of the Ministry of Law’s service transformation, which not only provides legal certainty but also delivers economic benefits through the strengthening of the national intellectual property ecosystem.
