Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas has handed over approximately 6.3 hectares of land to support the construction of Sekolah Rakyat, one of President Prabowo Subianto’s priority programmes. “The land from the Ministry of Law that we are handing over is approximately 63,000 square metres, so 6.3 hectares. We hope that the land handed over today can be utilised as quickly as possible, built upon, and then the Sekolah Rakyat can become operational,” Supratman said at the Ministry of Law office in Jakarta on Thursday. Supratman stated that the Sekolah Rakyat programme is not merely a government flagship initiative, but also a manifestation of the constitutional mandate requiring the state to provide education for all citizens. Additionally, Article 34 of the 1945 Constitution mandates the state to care for the poor and children in need of protection. “Education is extremely important and the state is obliged to provide education to enhance the intellectual life of the nation,” he said. He further explained that the government wants to ensure children from underprivileged families receive equal opportunities to access quality education and develop their potential. “Today, the President wants to realise that education is their right and the state must guarantee it,” Supratman said. On the occasion, Supratman also expressed appreciation for the abilities of students who have participated in the Sekolah Rakyat programme, stating that equal opportunity will open doors for every child to contribute to the nation’s progress. “I am confident that one day this beloved republic will be proud of you. If everyone is given the same opportunity in this republic, everyone can contribute,” he remarked.
