Law Minister awaits DPR deliberation on Asset Forfeiture Bill

Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas has stated that the government is waiting for the continuation of deliberations on the Asset Forfeiture Bill at the House of Representatives (DPR), while emphasising that the government already has a position on the draft regulation. Speaking in Jakarta on Thursday, Supratman said the Asset Forfeiture Bill is still in the stage of gathering public aspirations as part of the legislative process in the DPR, as it is a parliamentary initiative. He asked the public to allow space for the ongoing regulatory drafting process, including the absorption of public aspirations, which he said has been running for about two months. Supratman said the government respects the deliberation mechanism in the DPR and hopes the legislative process can continue until the drafting of the bill is completed. “We are waiting for the DPR. From what I see, given the seriousness of our colleagues in Parliament now, the draft should be able to be completed,” he said. Supratman said the Ministry of Law pays attention to all bills being discussed with the DPR without differentiating their priority levels. He added that the government will convey its official stance according to the deliberation mechanism once the legislative process reaches the necessary stage. Previously, Deputy Speaker of the DPR Saan Mustopa said the institution is striving for the Asset Forfeiture Bill to be completed this year. He stressed that the bill has not been removed from the 2026 Priority National Legislation Programme. The DPR, through Commission III which oversees law enforcement affairs, continues to receive public input through public hearing forums in the context of drafting the legislation.
