The investigation into alleged corruption and money laundering involving former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah must be pursued thoroughly to its roots. The case is seen as a crucial test for the credibility of law enforcement in Indonesia in uncovering mega-corruption scandals.

This was conveyed by 1998 activist coordinator Hasanuddin during a discussion titled ‘Measuring the Independence of Law Enforcement: The Case of Alleged Money Laundering by Former Jampidsus Febrie Adriansyah, Resolved or Evaporated?’ The event was organised by Aspirasi Pemuda Nasional (Aspenas) in South Jakarta on Sunday, 26 July 2026.

‘This is actually a momentum to test law enforcers in uncovering corruption cases, which include a number of matters such as the PLN blackout incident, PT Asabri, and PT Krakatau Steel,’ Hasanuddin stated. He assessed the scandal as a real portrait of structural crime and legal non-compliance committed by law enforcement officers, who ideally should act as upholders of justice, maintaining integrity and the sanctity of the law.

‘All of this is to maintain public trust in law enforcers who should not commit criminal acts. This really tarnishes the name of our law enforcement,’ he said. Hasanuddin also urged law enforcement officials to clearly investigate the predicate corruption crime that is the source of the assets allegedly obtained illegally by the former Jampidsus.

He noted that public information currently circulating focuses heavily on the discovery of a fantastic amount of cash and gold. ‘The handling of alleged money laundering cannot be separated from proving the predicate crime. It must first be explained from which alleged corruption case the money or assets originated,’ he said. ‘The public has the right to a complete explanation of the case construction, so that the law enforcement process proceeds transparently, accountably, and without giving rise to speculation,’ he added.

At the same venue, legal practitioner M. Kapitra Ampera also highlighted the mega-corruption scandal involving the former Jampidsus. He analogised Febrie’s case as that of a ‘big thief’.
