Lavrov: Russia Accepts US Proposal on Ukraine During Alaska Summit

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced on Friday that President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump discussed Washington’s proposal concerning Ukraine during a summit in Alaska, and that the proposal was accepted by the Russian side. On Thursday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that there was only a proposal, not an agreement, on Ukraine during the US-Russia summit in Alaska. “When my colleague Marco Rubio says that in Alaska there was only a proposal, but no agreement, I question what is meant by an agreement. If one party, in this case the United States, has put forward a settlement proposal on how to handle this crisis, and the other party has expressed agreement to the proposal, then it seems inappropriate to say there is no agreement,” Lavrov told reporters. Lavrov added that the fact is the proposal from the United States was discussed at the meeting in Alaska and was accepted by the Russian side. “Of course, we still need to clarify the whole situation,” Lavrov added.
