Lavrov briefs Rubio on frontline conditions in Ukraine

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov briefed US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the actual situation along the contact line in Ukraine during a meeting in Manila. “While discussing Ukrainian issues, Sergey Lavrov informed his American counterpart about the real situation on the contact line and stressed the unacceptability of continued weapons supplies to the Kiev regime, as well as the policies of European countries that generally create instability and a strategic defeat for Russia,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Thursday. Lavrov also affirmed Russia’s readiness for a political and diplomatic settlement of the conflict in Ukraine and reiterated Russia’s commitment to the proposals put forward by the United States in Alaska. Among other matters, Lavrov and Rubio also discussed the situation in the Persian Gulf, the Russian Foreign Ministry statement said.
