Amid rising environmental pressures and plastic waste issues, PT Lautan Luas Tbk (LTLS) is transforming waste into sustainable solutions. The company utilises plastic waste to create eco-friendly building materials, or eco-blocks, for educational facilities while reducing carbon emissions.

The eco-blocks used by the company to build the KB Cahaya Persada school in Mauk, Tangerang, are made from processed plastic waste. This innovative material utilises approximately 2.2 tons of plastic waste and directly contributes to a reduction in carbon emissions of up to 5.2 tons of CO2.

In collaboration with Happy Hearts Indonesia, the company is also designing similar projects to provide decent and safe access to education for around 100 beneficiaries.

“This construction is tangible proof of Lautan Luas’s commitment to creating positive impacts, not only for the students but also for the environment by turning plastic waste into sturdy and meaningful educational facilities,” stated Eurike Hadijaya, Head of Investor Relations, Corporate Communications and ESG at PT Lautan Luas Tbk, in a written statement on Wednesday, 29 April 2026.

Eurike explained that this initiative is part of the company’s commitment to delivering broad impacts for society and the environment, having operated in Indonesia for more than 74 years. The company also involves employees in social activities, such as directly painting murals on the school walls to create a more cheerful and inspiring learning atmosphere for the students.

“We hope this facility can create a decent and comfortable learning environment for the children in Mauk. Through the creativity of employees expressed in mural paintings, we hope that employees can also contribute through collaboration and a sense of care for the community,” added Eurike.

Appreciation also came from Juanedi, Chairman of HIMPAUDI in Pakuhaji Subdistrict, who views this project as not only bringing new buildings but also important education for the community. He stated that the use of eco-blocks serves as a real example that plastic waste can be processed into high-value materials through collaboration among various parties.

Lautan Luas continues to strengthen its position as a chemical industry partner in the Asia Pacific region by prioritising sustainability principles. Through its three main business lines—manufacturing, chemical distribution, and support services—the company strives to maintain a balance between business growth and social and environmental responsibilities.
