Laura denies Hamzah Haz link

JAKARTA: The identity of "Laura", rumored to be a daughter of
Vice President Hamzah Haz, was partially revealed on Monday when
she arrived at city police headquarters to give a statement on a
drug case involving her boyfriend, actor and model Ibrahim
Azhari.

"I am not the daughter of Hamzah Haz, but Ibrahim has really
been my boyfriend for about one year," Laura Wendari told
reporters as quoted by online news portal detik.com.

Laura, 25, also said she knew the vice presidential family
through one of Hamzah's children.

Hamzah has 15 children from three wives. Laura was rumored to
be the daughter of his third wife, Soraya, who has three children
from a previous marriage.

Earlier on Sunday, Soraya and her daughter Aziza Kusuma Dewi
held a press conference to deny that she was involved in the drug
case.

However, there are still questions about Laura, who refused to
discuss her family background.

There are rumors that her father is a high-ranking member of
the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) or
that her father is a legislator in the House of Representatives
from West Nusatenggara Barat.--JP

Projects worth billions completed

TANGERANG: In conjunction with the Tangerang municipality's
10th anniversary, the municipal administration will inaugurate on
Friday a new Tangerang administration office center, a new Grand
Mosque and a new overpass in Cikokol.

Mayor M. Thamrin said on Monday that the funding for the three
projects, costing some Rp 300 billion, had been taken from the
administration's annual budget.

The administration is also constructing a state-of-the-art
pedestrian bridge as a city landmark on Jl. MH. Thamrin. It will
cost Rp 2 billion.

Thamrin said other projects under way were the construction of
an integrated bus terminal in Poris Plawad subdistrict, Batu
Ceper district, and a five-kilometer road from Tangerang city to
Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, costing Rp 60 billion and
Rp 40 billion respectively.

The mayor revealed that the administration would also build
several other concrete roads as alternative routes to reduce
traffic in the municipality.

They will include a toll road from Serpong to Teluk Naga, via
Alam Sutra housing complex in Kunciran subdistrict in Cipondoh
district, Modern Land housing estate and Poris Plawad
subdistrict.--JP

Workers demand severance pay

TANGERANG: Hundreds of workers of bag producer PT Tasindo in
Carewet village of Cikupa district and security guard supplier
for Soekarno-Hatta International Airport PT Tri Otomat Pratama
Guard staged separate rallies on Monday, demanding severance pay.

Some 650 workers of PT Tasindo staged a rally at the Tangerang
regency council office in Tigaraksa, asking the council to order
the company to pay their severance pay as regulated in minister
of manpower decree No. 150/2000 on massive dismissals.

"We staged the protest because the company's management will
only pay us the equivalent of one month's salary as severance
pay," Sutoyono, who led the workers, said.

He said the company had dismissed workers, mostly women, after
they had staged a rally demanding the company increase their
monthly wage from Rp 590,000 to Rp 628,000 last month.

"We don't believe the company has gone bankrupt since our
rally last month. It was just an excuse," said another worker,
adding that they had filed three complaints with the regency's
manpower office, but to no avail.

Separately, 350 security officers of PT Tri Otomat Pratama
Guard staged a rally at the Tangerang municipal council office on
Monday over similar demands.

"We've heard that we will be dismissed because the contract
between PT Tri Otomat and PT Angkasa Pura, which manages the
airport, will soon end ... We've also heard that no severance pay
will be paid even though most of us have worked for the company
for three years," M. Sukisno, one of the workers said.--JP
