Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Indonesia will also collaborate with WeChat Pay to integrate the payment system as part of the implementation of cross-border QRIS with China. WeChat Pay is a mobile payment service (mobile wallet) integrated into China’s WeChat messaging application.

Chairman of the Indonesian Payment System Association (ASPI) Santoso explained that the Chinese side is currently integrating the payment system with QR, where each payment technology company has a single QR.

“So they have built a single QR. It is hoped that all QRs in China can be used later,” said Santoso when met by media after the launch of the Indonesia Digital Innovation Centre and RI-China Cross-Border QRIS at the BI Building, Jakarta on Thursday (30/4/2026).

The RI-China cross-border QRIS is currently integrated with Alipay and UnionPay. Meanwhile, WeChat Pay and MPC are still building their integrations.

“If it’s WeChat, it’s being explored. Because there are technological aspects that need to be interconnected among themselves. In Indonesia, there are actually no problems,” said Santoso.

On this day, Bank Indonesia launched the cross-border QRIS between Indonesia and China. This marks the expansion of QRIS payment access in various parts of the world.

The expansion of QRIS in China will add to the list of countries where Indonesians can make cashless transactions.

Before China, on 1 April 2026, BI had inaugurated the use of QRIS in South Korea. Previously, it was already usable in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan.
