A number of musicians and arts groups are scheduled to perform to liven up the event, ranging from Betawi cultural performances to modern bands. In addition to serving as an entertainment space for residents, the activity also acts as a medium for the DKI Provincial Government to socialise the waste sorting movement that is being intensified in Jakarta.

Based on observations by detikcom, around 3:35 PM WIB, the event area began to be attended by residents who came to enjoy the series of entertainment in the ‘DECLARATION OF THE WASTE SORTING MOVEMENT AND LAUNCH OF JAKARTA’S 499TH ANNIVERSARY’. Several visitors were seen enjoying the performances on the stage area while following the environmental campaign promoted by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government in this year’s celebrations.

One visitor, Ella (50), a resident of Karet Kuningan, said she came to the event location out of curiosity about the concept of the activity that was widely shared in various conversation groups.

“I have many groups, and in those groups, information has already been shared that there is an event this Saturday and tomorrow. I’m curious what the event is like, so I came here,” said Ella to detikcom at Plaza Festival Kuningan, Jakarta, on Saturday (9/5/2026).

Ella assessed that the concept of the event held in the H.R. Rasuna Said corridor is interesting because it not only presents entertainment but also provides information on Jakarta’s development from time to time as well as a variety of culinary choices.

“The event design is really great. There’s information about the history and conditions of Jakarta over time, so it’s also a lesson for us. There’s also a lot of food, so visitors can enjoy the event comfortably. I also heard that there will be many performers until night,” she said.

Moreover, according to Ella, the environmental campaign titled ‘Keep Jakarta Clean: Sort Waste’ as part of the 499th Jakarta Anniversary Launch is very relevant, considering the increasingly limited capacity of the Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST) Bantar Gebang.

“I really agree with this waste sorting movement. We often hear that Bantar Gebang can no longer accommodate waste from Jakarta. So as residents, we must have awareness to start sorting waste,” she said.

Ella hopes that efforts to maintain city cleanliness are not only the responsibility of the government but also require active participation from the community.

“The government certainly must continue to improve services, but the community must also participate. Don’t just demand from the government, while we ourselves don’t want to start sorting waste, at least from our own homes,” she explained.

H.R. Rasuna Said Chosen as a Symbol of Global Jakarta City

Meanwhile, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government explained that the selection of the H.R. Rasuna Said area was not without reason. The area is considered to represent the face of Jakarta as a global city with a strategic function as a business centre, diplomacy, as well as a modern public space.

Previously, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that the arrangement of the H.R. Rasuna Said corridor is part of efforts to create a more pedestrian-friendly, integrated, and sustainable urban space.

“The H.R. Rasuna Said corridor represents the new face of Jakarta as a global city. The arrangement of this area is an important part in creating a more integrated, comfortable urban space for pedestrians, and supporting sustainable mobility,” said Pramono, quoted from a Press Release received.

Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta, Rano Karno, added that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is also pushing for strengthened integrated transportation and plans to implement Car-Free Days (HBKB) along the area as part of the environmental-friendly city transformation.

The ‘DECLARATION OF THE WASTE SORTING MOVEMENT AND LAUNCH OF JAKARTA’S 499TH ANNIVERSARY’ activity becomes one of the DKI Provincial Government’s efforts to encourage changes in community behaviour in managing waste from the source.

Furthermore, the series of events features various cross-genre music performances, from musicians to Betawi cultural arts groups performing on the main stage to enliven the celebration atmosphere in that public space.

Through this activity, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government hopes that collaboration between the government, communities, business actors, and the public can further strengthen Jakarta’s transformation towards a sustainable global city ahead of its five-century age.

The series of events will continue on Sunday (10/5). In the morning, residents can join group sports activities, while in the afternoon to evening, music entertainment, community activations, and waste sorting campaigns will be held again.

The public can attend this event for free in the Pedestrian Plaza Festival area, Jalan H.R. Rasuna Said, South Jakarta. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government invites residents to join in livening up the celebration while participating in the movement to maintain city cleanliness.
