Latest US strikes kill at least seven Iranians
At least seven people were killed and nine others injured in United States strikes on the city of Bandar e Khamir in southern Iran, Iranian broadcaster Press TV reported. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced a new series of strikes against Iranian targets on Thursday (16/7). Tehran and Washington had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the evening of 18 June to end the war that has been ongoing since 28 February. However, the US military has launched several attacks against Iran since 8 July, claiming the strikes were in retaliation for Iranian actions against commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. In response, the Iranian military retaliated by targeting US bases located in several Middle Eastern countries. Tehran has also accused Washington of violating the ceasefire they had jointly agreed upon. On 9 July, US President Donald Trump stated that the ceasefire was no longer in effect.
