The Bogor Regency Government (Pemkab Bogor) is continuing its preparations for the development of transport facilities as part of a strategy to address connectivity issues and traffic density, particularly in the Puncak tourist area. In addition to developing electric bus-based transport, the Bogor Regency Government is also examining plans to build a cable car or cable-based mass transit system in the Puncak region.

The Regional Secretary of Bogor Regency, Ajat Rochmat Jatnika, stated that the plan is part of the directive from the Regent of Bogor, Rudy Susmanto, to provide alternative transportation that can support the mobility of both residents and tourists.

“The plan to build a cable car in the Puncak area is one of the alternative transport developments to increase connectivity while simultaneously reducing traffic pressure on the Puncak route,” said Ajat.

According to him, the cable car concept will be directed towards connecting several strategic points within the Puncak area. This would ensure that both the public and tourists have transport options other than private vehicles.

Beyond serving as a means of transport, the cable car is also expected to have an impact on the development of the tourism sector and the local community’s economy.

“In addition to its transport function, the cable car is expected to support the development of tourism and the local economy, including MSMEs and tourist destinations in the Puncak area,” he added.

Nevertheless, Ajat emphasised that the plan is still in the study phase. The Bogor Regency Government needs to ensure that the construction of the cable car meets various technical and governance aspects before it is realised.

The study includes the route, passenger capacity, safety aspects, environmental impact, spatial planning compliance, land requirements, integration with other transport modes, and investment feasibility.

“This plan still requires a comprehensive study, covering technical, safety, environmental, spatial planning, land requirements, transport mode integration, as well as investment feasibility,” said Ajat.

He added that transport development in the Puncak area is expected to not only serve as a solution to congestion but also as part of a more integrated and sustainable arrangement of the tourist region.
