Latest Update on the Lembah Anai Toll Road Construction Project in West Sumatra

PT Hutama Karya (Persero) has spoken out on the proposal to build a toll road traversing the hilly Lembah Anai area in West Sumatra. Acting Executive Vice President (EVP) for Corporate Secretary of Hutama Karya, Hamdani, stated that the company is still in the coordination phase with the Directorate General of Highway Development under the Ministry of Public Works (PU) concerning the Lembah Anai Toll Road development plan. “Regarding the Lembah Anai Toll Road development plan, it is indeed still being deliberated at the Ministry of PU. Recently, we are still coordinating with the Director General of Highway Development on whether this will indeed be assigned to Hutama Karya or another scheme,” Hamdani said in his statement in Jakarta, quoted on Sunday (12/4/2026). He expressed hope for a decision on the toll road development plan, should Hutama Karya be entrusted once again to build the Lembah Anai Toll Road. “We hope there will be a decision handed over to Hutama Karya. However, there were rumours recently that it might not be Hutama Karya, but in our discussions with the Ministry of PU, with our readiness and resources, hopefully we can realise this toll road company,” he explained. Previously, Minister of PU Dody Hanggodo assured that the Lembah Anai Toll Road construction would be handled by Hutama Karya. “(PT Hutama Karya) has agreed, right,” Dody said at the Ministry of PU office on Thursday (2/4/2026). On the same occasion, the Director General of Highway Development of the Ministry of PU, Roy Rizali Anwar, mentioned that the toll road construction is currently in process. “The Lembah Anai Toll Road is undergoing soil investigation, studies, and so on for acceleration (of construction),” Roy said. Roy could not yet disclose the investment value for building the toll road. According to him, the Lembah Anai toll road development is still in the study process. “Initial study stages, permitting, route determination, soil investigation,” he continued. Roy added that the Lembah Anai Toll Road development is included in the priority project list as per President Prabowo Subianto’s directives. “As soon as possible, because it’s a priority according to Mr President’s instructions,” Roy added. Previously, the toll road development plan in the Lembah Anai area was revealed by the Minister of PU in mid-December 2025. The toll road development plan is expected to reduce traffic density on roads around Lembah Anai.
