Latest Update on the Bogor Tram Project
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Bogor Mayor Dedie Abdu Rachim has spoken about the progress of the tram project planned to encircle the city centre of Bogor. Dedie revealed that the project plan is currently in the feasibility study phase, conducted jointly with Colas Rail from France. “Regarding the Bogor City tram project plan, it is currently in the feasibility study stage, carried out together with Colas Rail from France. So, the initial recommendation from that feasibility study indicates that Bogor City is suitable for rail-based transport, one of which is trams,” Dedie told CNBC Indonesia on Sunday (12/4/2026). In follow-up, the Bogor City Government (Pemkot Bogor) is also continuing coordination with the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) as the regulator and with PT INKA (Persero) or INKA regarding the procurement of tram fleet. “The follow-up from the aforementioned feasibility study, we of course coordinate and communicate with DJKA, with the Ministry of Transportation, including with related stakeholders. First, the most strategic is the domestic railway industry, which happens to INKA is currently building an Indonesian urban tram prototype, because it has a battery tram prototype,” he continued. Dedie went on to say that they have already signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with INKA regarding the fulfilment of the Bogor City tram fleet and currently they are still awaiting developments from the development of that battery tram. “Next, of course we carry out a form of cooperation agreement, still in the MoU stage, while we await further developments from the INKA tram. In the agreement between Bogor City and INKA, that one prototype unit will be used as a showcase, as a prototype that can be accessed by the Bogor City community and others, so that the community gets to know and get closer that the future of urban transport is, among others, production from the domestic railway industry,” he explained. Next, Pemkot Bogor will also coordinate with Kemenhub regarding the implementation plan for this tram corridor or route. There will be four corridors, with the first phase to be built along 8 km on the route encircling the Kebun Raya Bogor area. “What is the next step? What is carried out by Pemkot Bogor is communicating with Kemenhub on how to explore the implementation of the corridor. So from the feasibility earlier, the corridor plan has emerged, if not mistaken there are four corridors proposed. But for the first phase, approximately 8 km encircling Kebun Raya Bogor from Terminal Baranangsiang,” he clarified. However, they have not yet been able to detail the plan for those four tram corridors, because it is still in the study stage.
