Ride-hailing driver Hasan Syukur, 56, also known as Agus, is still receiving treatment at Fatmawati Hospital after being run over by an electric BYD in the Blok M area of South Jakarta.

The crash left him with a broken left leg, which required surgery. Police said that after the operation he remained under medical observation.

The update was provided by AKBP Muhammad Adiel Aristo, head of the Law Enforcement Sub-Directorate at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Traffic Directorate.

“The victim has just undergone surgery and is still under observation at Fatmawati Hospital,” Adiel said on Sunday (25 October), as reported by Detik.

During the initial investigation, the driver of the BYD, identified by the initial S, said that he had been startled and panicked while driving. However, police have not concluded that this was the cause of the crash.

Investigators are still questioning S and examining the sequence of events to determine what triggered the collision. S has been named a suspect.

The crash occurred on Friday (23 October) at around 4.48pm WIB. Commissioner Kharisma Arbita Bangsa, head of the Traffic Accident Unit at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Traffic Directorate’s Law Enforcement Sub-Directorate, explained how it happened.

“The BYD, registration B-1220-KDP, was travelling from south to north along Jalan Panglima Polim in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta,” Kharisma said on Saturday (24 October).

In front of the Win Hotel, it hit a Honda Brio, registration B-2967-NGY, travelling in the same direction ahead of it.

The BYD then veered left, hitting a Honda Beat, registration A-3867-DD, ridden by ride-hailing driver HS, as well as a Wuling, registration B-1835-ERZ, which was stopped at the roadside.

After hitting those vehicles, the BYD mounted the pavement and struck two cars parked in the Hotel Amaris area: a Honda Mobilio, registration B-1247-WZK, and a Toyota Navi, registration B-2447-TWB.

Police said six vehicles in total were involved in the sequence of crashes, including the BYD driven by S.

The impact left HS with a broken left leg and abrasions. He was taken to Fatmawati Hospital for treatment.
