Latest Update on NTT Earthquake: 105 Dead, 179,000 Displaced
The Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Lieutenant General TNI Suharyanto, reported on Wednesday (26/8) that the death toll from the earthquake in Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) has risen to 105 people.
He delivered the report to President Prabowo Subianto during a meeting at the NTT Earthquake Handling Command Post in Nagekeo on Wednesday (26/8).
“Mr President, we report that the number of fatalities stands at 105,” said Suharyanto.
He stated that the number of injured victims is 1,678, while the current number of displaced persons is 179,037.
Suharyanto explained that the number of people directly affected by the earthquake was actually 48, while the other 57 were the result of follow-up search and rescue operations by Basarnas.
“The complete data is indeed the result of SAR operations carried out by Basarnas, then those treated at health facilities who did not survive, and there were also those suffering from trauma, the elderly, and children, adding 57 so that the death toll now stands at 105,” he said.
The number of damaged houses currently stands at 81,436 units. Suharyanto also noted that the three most severely affected regencies are Manggarai, East Manggarai, and Nagekeo.
The death toll from the NTT earthquake has increased by five compared to the data from Monday (24/8), which recorded 100 fatalities.
Today, President Prabowo Subianto visited the areas affected by the NTT earthquake.
Based on a live broadcast from the Presidential Secretariat, Prabowo arrived shortly before 12:00. He appeared to arrive aboard the presidential helicopter.
Afterwards, Prabowo immediately held a disaster management meeting at the disaster handling command post located at the Territorial Development Battalion in Nagekeo Regency.
Also present at the meeting were State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, Deputy Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces General Tandyo Budi Revita, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo.
