Latest Update on Bandung Confinement Case: Suspect Taufik Hidayat to Undergo Psychiatric Evaluation
West Java Police are currently investigating the mental condition of suspect Taufik Hidayat as part of the ongoing investigation into the alleged confinement and abuse of a woman in Bandung Regency. The psychiatric examination is being conducted to obtain an initial assessment of the suspect’s psychological state following allegations that he held the victim captive for approximately three years.
West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan stated that the examination was necessary. “We are also involving experts, psychiatric experts, so that we have initial data on the suspect’s mental condition,” he said.
This step was taken to understand the suspect’s mental state, given that the alleged pattern of violence is considered extremely severe and abnormal in a personal relationship. The psychiatric evaluation is being carried out by a special team appointed by the West Java Police to complete the case file before it proceeds to the next stage. Authorities want to ascertain whether any psychological disorder may have influenced the suspect’s actions during the alleged period of confinement and abuse.
The West Java Police Chief previously highlighted that the suspect’s alleged actions were beyond the bounds of normality and indicated extremely severe violence against the victim. The case was uncovered after the victim, YTR, was found in critical condition at Hasan Sadikin Hospital in Bandung. The victim’s family reported losing contact with her for around three years before learning she had sustained serious injuries from alleged repeated violence. Initial investigations suggest the victim was confined in a boarding house in the Cileunyi area of Bandung Regency and suffered various forms of physical abuse that caused serious health problems. In addition to the psychiatric evaluation of the suspect, West Java Police investigators are continuing to gather additional evidence and witness statements to strengthen the legal framework of the case. The suspect has been detained and placed in a special cell under strict supervision during the examination process.
