Depok, VIVA – The alleged sexual harassment case involving students from the University of Indonesia’s Faculty of Law (FH UI) continues to draw public attention. This matter has not only shaken the campus environment but also triggered broad discussions regarding the safety and protection of the academic community in higher education institutions.

The victims’ legal representative, Timotius Rajagukguk, revealed that the harassment actions have been ongoing since 2025. He stated that the victims had long been aware of the inappropriate treatment they experienced, but the case only recently emerged into the public eye.

“The victims have known they were being harassed since 2025. So, I think we can all imagine how they felt from 2025 onwards. Every time they entered the campus, every time they entered class, they knew that at any moment the perpetrators could talk about them, harass them, right in front of them,” Timotius said at the University of Indonesia’s Student Activity Centre in Depok, West Java, on Tuesday, 14 April 2026.

Based on the information disclosed, the alleged harassment was carried out by 16 FH UI students through a conversation group.

In several circulated screenshots, the conversations are suspected to contain sexually tinged comments that demean, not only towards female students but also female lecturers.

To date, the number of identified victims has reached 27 people. The breakdown includes 20 victims who are FH UI students, while the other 7 are lecturers from the same faculty. This figure indicates that the impact of the case is widespread and not limited to one group alone.

Timotius also revealed that the victims initially hesitated to report the incident.

A lengthy process of more than one year has finally yielded results with the case being exposed to the public.

“For more than 1.5 years fighting this case. So, don’t think of this as just a leak, an unclear leak. It didn’t just leak like that. This is a struggle of more than one year for everything, and seeing this case like this, seeing the campus’s handling as well, I place a lot of hope,” Timotius stated.

In his remarks, Timotius also conveyed firm demands from the victims’ side for the perpetrators to receive severe sanctions.
